Become a Telmap Navigator Beta Tester

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Software" @ 10:10 PM

http://www.telmap.com/tugPC

Telmap has opened its user group to you, dear Pocket PC Thoughts reader. Join the user group and you'll join a beta program that will allow you to test and use Telmap Navigator for free. Navigator is a turn-by-turn in-car navigation application, complete with 3D moving maps, traffic and speed camera information, text-to-speech capabilities, pedestrian support, and local search for millions of POIs around the world.

To register, visit www.telmap.com/tugpc. Feedback can be addressed to tugadmin [at] telmap [dot] com.

Update #1: The folks at Telmap have just written in to inform us that they've been overwhelmed by Pocket PC Thoughts readers interested in testing Navigator. As a result, they will soon be imposing a limit on the number of registrations in order to keep the group to a manageable size. So, if you want in, you'd better scoot off to the registration page before it's too late. We'll post a second update once the doors have closed.

Update #2: Telmap has received plenty of US registrations, so the limit is on US registrations only. The company is still welcoming registrations from readers based in other countries.

GPS Tuner 5.4 Supports Online Maps and Cameras

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Software" @ 01:00 PM

http://gpstuner.com/

"GPS Tuner v5.4 and Map Calibrator v2.5 have been released. The new version of Award Winning off-road navigation software is now able to downlad Google Terrain (Topo) Maps and Open Street Maps from internet and use them without any calibration process. The new Map Calibrator also supports these new types of online maps. Suunto’s X9i off-road GPS watch data format (.sdf) is also supported, so you are able to see your X9i track in GPS Tuner or in Map Calibrator or upload your saved waypoints/routes to Suunto X9i internal memory. New map rotation mode (in 90 degrees steps) and built-in camera support are also implemented in GPS Tuner v5.4."

Online maps and camera support? The venerable GPS Tuner just keeps getting better. Hit the product web page to download. For registered users who purchased less than a year ago, this one's a free upgrade.
